Hi, I’m Ben.
A self-taught, British photographer, I’ve lived and worked in Malaysia and Tanzania, Newcastle, and now I’m back in Malaysia
My love affair with photography began as a child and taunted me throughout my early professional life in education. After much soul searching there was a light bulb moment: I could combine my love of people and travel with my drive and passion behind the lens. Fast forward and I’m very lucky to be doing a job I love.
I’ve shot many weddings and portrait shoots, as well as commercial photography, and then there’s landscapes.
With landscapes I will never tire: the light and textures are spellbinding. I’m also a crazy nut who doesn’t mind getting up at the crack of dawn on a regular basis in anticipation of what the sunrise might offer.
(Oh, and do feel free to scroll down and have a look at what others have to say about me as well.)
“…it was my boyfriend’s birthday yesterday and he absolutely loved the canvas print. It turns out that he used to go up and down those Dixon Park steps to the beach almost every day, he recognised it straight away and he almost cried. He couldn’t stop staring at it. It looked amazing on the canvas, I’m really pleased with the result and how it all turned out :)” – Georgia Moore
“Thank you so much for our wonderful wedding photographs, you captured our day perfectly and we really loved your informal style of catching people ‘in action’ and having fun. We have so many beautiful memories of our special day now thanks to you. What was great was you made everyone feel at ease with your non-intrusive style.” – Dom and Lucy Collins
“Ben you have definitely exceeded all my expectations. Yes the tears came flowing looking over them and I wrote a list of my favourites […] think I pretty much like all of them!” – Oren and Katie Bulley
“Ben your Newcastle landscapes capture the throbbing heart of our town … thank you.” – Surfest team, via Facebook
“What an eye, loved every single photo.” – Lee-Anne Ah-See, Wollotuka Institute
“Ben’s flexible and enthusiastic approach to photography was perfectly suited to the fast paced and unpredictable nature of a large event. The final product was of very high quality and delivered to us by Ben himself – excellent service!” – Rachael Puddephatt, Maitland City Council
“Thank you so much, these photos are better than we could ever have hoped for! Our whole experience with you was very relaxing. You listened to our ideas, then combined them with your knowledge and expertise to create these beautiful images of our family, ones we will always cherish. Your easy going nature and patience with the girls really paid off. They look so natural and happy, as do we.” – Will and Beck Dowe
“THANK YOU SO MUCH. They are delightful, full of the fun of the evening and a great reminder of all of my wonderful scholars and friends. You are a treasure.” – Jennie Thomas, University of Newcastle Foundation donor
“We really love our pictures of Tom and George. It made such a differences that you came to our home, and weren’t in a rush – especially with two newborn babies! You made the whole experience a relaxed pleasure. Thanks, Ben.” – Clare and Lee Walker
“Ben took some really unusual shots … at one stage he was lying on the sand and we were all looking down at him in a circle. These imaginative shots were such fun to make due to the life and laughter Ben brings to his shoot. Everyone … has all got their own favourite shots but all of us agree the collection is just so impressive. We were also so pleased with the quick turnaround of photos received by us so soon after the shoot. The quality of each photo is amazing due to the clarity, light and backdrop captured by Ben [which] shows how extremely talented he is in his field. I would highly recommend anyone to Ben for portraits, landscapes or in fact anything!” – Robinanne Lavelle
“Ben, we love, love, love our photos! Very impressive, natural shots that we will treasure forever. You captured all the love our family shares & more. Thank you for the memories!” – Lauren and Chad Brady
“Ben, I wanted to send you an email with how stoked I was with our session the other month and how the photos turned out as a result. The sunrise was a cracker but the conditions were average which made it a challenge for both of us but you really came through with the goods. It really felt like you weren’t there taking pictures and I felt like I could have a normal session out at the Cowrie Hole. I like how flexible you were with timing, location and conditions if they weren’t up to scratch. I’ll be referring you on to anyone in the area that may be looking for some great wall hangers.” – Jake Addison
